Data Recovery Hard Disk Information That Could Save You Time, Money And A Whole Lot Of Grief........!!!

Hard Disk Drive Data Recovery Solutions...

Granting you still are persuaded to undertake to make good a physically damaged drive yourself, at least - before you do anything specific make an image of the drive and run all data recovery efforts on the image.

Hard disk data recovery can be complex but it is possible more often than you might think. These days it is possible to recover your lost or inaccessible files from any imaginable data recovery disaster.

If you suspect a problem with your computer hard drive, running software such as Microsoft Scandisk and Norton Disk Doctor may cause irreversible allocation damage. The same principle applies to the UNIX-based operating systems. The use of these on a potentially damaged hard disk could be detrimental.

Sometimes it is not fully clear what caused the data loss in the first place. Whatever happened to your data - whether files were accidentally deleted, a virus wiped out the boot record, the drive was formatted or fdisk'ed or even if it is no longer recognized by the operating system, as long as it wasn't physically overwritten, the data which was on the hard disk is still there.

A large percentage of damaged hard drive data can be recovered if proper steps are taken during and prior to recovery.

What are some of those steps?

First, do not attempt to power up a visibly-damaged PC. You should examine the inside of the computer case carefully before you apply power. For example, powering on a PC that has been touched by flood waters is not only dangerous, it may also destroy the data. If the data on the hard disk is valuable, you are taking a tremendous risk if you power up the PC to see if it will boot.

Do not attempt to clean or dry water-logged hard drives. Do not try to dry out the media and then apply power. Hard drive heads fly just microns above the media on a pocket of air generated by the velocity of the platters spinning at high velocity. Any internal disturbance of this process can make the media unrecoverable.

Don't try to use data recovery software on media that has been involved with flood or storm damage. Software programs are for use on hard drives or other media in good working order.

Organizations that specialize in recovering data from damaged computers use a variety of techniques. They may be able to move the disk to a working computer, or they may have to open the drive and replace parts such as read/write heads, arms and chips. Sometimes, the platters are removed and placed into another drive.

When a hard disk is physically damaged no software solution is going to bring your data back. We recommend you not even try to recover your data yourself in these cases, because each time you run a damaged drive could be last time it is running.

In this scenario only a professional data recovery hard disk service can help.
